LabSim Chapter 2.1.4 PC Hardware

New Hardware!

I use an HP Envy 17" touch screen laptop for everything I do.  Last year I purchased a Chromebook just for studies and research, but ended up not using it much, mainly because it is not a touch screen laptop.  Boy, do I love my touch screen laptop.  I can convert it to a tablet and use it as a regular laptop.

This semester, my laptop just isn't enough because I need multiple opened windows to perform different tasks on different applications.  I feel that my screen is big enough, but it is strenuous on my eyes after a while. I noticed that now I have to upgrade my reading glasses.

On Sunday, I decided it was time to get an extra monitor to help me with my computer multi-tasking.  I purchased a new piece of hardware and it is working just as I expected.  For the past week, my eyes haven't felt over strained and I can see clearer with my larger monitor.  I am so happy that I was able to connect and configure my new monitor to my laptop all by myself.

Here is my upgraded home office workstation.

I really like that both screens have individual backgrounds.  I set them up to run a series of photos at one minute intervals, so both screens are always different.

I am happy with my new hardware.

  1. A second monitor -- maybe a third later -- monitor definitely makes a world of difference ^_^

I like how you used books to elevate your second monitor :-)

  2. That's amazing, I've always wanted a touch screen laptop! I had my fair share of being frustrated over online assignments because they required to do extra work and I don't like having to use scratch paper. You've inspired me to think about purchasing an extra monitor because one screen really isn't enough sometimes. Glad you invested in something that can benefit you immensely!

  3. Looks great. Almost can set them up to look like they are flowing water from one or the other. Nice purchase.

  4. I love my touchscreen laptop too! It's the best! Do you find yourself unconsciously tapping the screen when you used your Chromebook? Hahaha, I know I had that issue when trying to use my kids' MacBooks.
I love your dual monitors. I was thinking of getting the kind that attach to the laptop to keep everything portable. It's a little pricey, but I think it'll be a good investment.

  5. My computer graphics card has been used for nearly three years. The same 2080TI. I bought it before the pandemic. Many computer hardware is on sale now, and I'm taking advantage of Thanksgiving this year to get one! Seeing your big screen makes me think I need and should upgrade my computer graphics card.

  6. Multiple monitors definitely allow for increased productivity I have an old Acer 27in monitor I moved to the left side solely to have Youtube, Twitch, or Lightroom Classic displayed. My middle monitor is a 34in Samsung for the main screen. I also took a look at using my old tablet as a mini 3rd monitor by using a USB to screen application to display system temperature or a animated wallpaper.

  7. I can not do a single screen anymore. My work set up has always been on two screens. When I get off and have to work on my MacBook I have such a hard time adjusting. I am going to follow your lead and buy a second screen.

  8. I love my touch screen laptop too. I just hate the mouse pad. I had to use an external mouse to navigate through chapter four on the Labsims.

  13. Heyy! I also have a touchscreen monitor too! My laptop is able to be bent and twisted in weird angles, it is called a Yoga laptop. I think I would rather use an IPad though!

  19. I too enjoy a good touchscreen, especially on a laptop. I have multiple multiscreen set-ups at work. For the set-up at home, my wife's work computer we opted for a larger screen that can to split screen and each side is a decent size. I'm not sure if it saved on cost, but it does save on space and cables.
